Person or Expert you admire

Think about a person that I admire sometimes is very difficult for me, I admire my father and my grandmother, for the efforts that they do for me, but this blog isn't about my family, is about a person or expert that I admire in the field of my career, and this person is Francisco Varela.
Francisco Varela was a Chilean biologist who investigate the neuroscientific and cognitive sciences, bringing them the dialog between the sciences and buddhism.
Varela was born in 1946 in Santiago in Chile, he completed the secundary school at the Liceo Aleman del Verbo Divino in Santiago. After this he studied medicine at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, but for no longer, after that he graduate in Biology at the University of Chile and later he obtained a Ph.D in biology at  Harvard University. While the dictatorial government of Augusto Pinochet he was exiled with his family for 7 years. During this time he was on United States, later he return to become a professor of Biology.
While the 70s Varela became in a Tibetan Buddhist at the point that he studied with Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche a Nepalese master of meditation and higher tantras.
In 1986 he settled in France where he at first taught cognitive science and epistemology at the École Polytechnique, and neuroscience at University of Paris. He founded the Mind and Life Institute with Adam Engle in 1987. And from 1988 until his dead in 2001 he lead de CNRS (Centre National de Recherche Scientifique).
Varela's strong philosophical influences still remaining with his teacher and fellow Humberto Maturana. Both of this Biologyst studied on this University, both of this scientifics are experts to admire, in many fields. The autopoiesis theory, the cognitive science work, the Mind and Life Insitute and the harmony between Buddhism and Biology, all those things have my entire admiration.
Varela died in 2001 in Paris of Hepatitis C, his professor, Humberto Maturana still
researching and giving oral presentations about his biologyc philosophy.
